The trust was very pleased to recently support two neonatal nurses with a travel scholarship.

This allowed them to attend the Neo-BFHI Conference in Uppsala, Sweden.NEO_BFHI

The BFHI “The baby Friendly Hospital initiative” is a global campaign of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The goal is to increase breastfeeding initiation and duration rates by protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding.

Both of these nurses are involved with BFHI standards within the neonatal unit and are on the feeding committee which also oversees the milk bank operations. One is the unit's feeding specialist and the other is an acting clinical nurse manager with a specialty in breastfeeding.

Not only did these nurses attend the conference they also visited several neonatal units in Europe who have also implemented BFHI standards and operational milk banks.

The trust is pleased to support this form of education.
